Catalog description

This course examines the technical and compositional exercises taught by great composers, including Mozart, Handel, CPE Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. The content moves progressively through figured bass, fantasias and cadenzas, variations, and finally songs/short piano pieces in the style of Brahms. Upon completion, students should demonstrate compositional proficiency with the pitch organization of common-practice tonal music.
