MCA 31014
Spanish for Journalism & Media
CUNY City College · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This foundational Spanish language journalism course emphasizes storytelling about community and is open to all students with proficiency in Spanish. Students will learn the skills of researching, interviewing, reporting, and writing in Spanish. They will use these skills to cover their communities, Harlem and Washington Heights, where important stories often go unreported. While the focus of reporting is on text, students can also use photography, video, and audio techniques to report their stories and to supplement the text. Student work will appear on HarlemView, the Journalism Minor website. The course was created by the Journalism Minor, the School of Education, the Department of Modern & Classical Languages and Literatures, and the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute with assistance from the Bilingual Journalism Program at the Craig Newmark School of Journalism at CUNY.
