Media, Democracy, and Authorit

Catalog description

Democracies rely on people being able to access reliable sources of information, to recognize those sources, and to use that information to make informed political decisions. In this course, we will study the role of the media in its intersection with democracy and with authoritarian movements in contexts around the world. We will explore how democratic and authoritarian politics are reflected in newspapers, television and radio, and social media and how these media communicate the development of recent political events.
