Muslims & Jews in Morocco
CUNY City College · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
There has been a flourishing Jewish presence in Morocco for at least two millennia. Just ten years ago the Moroccan government updated its constitution to proclaim that Jewish tradition is a core element in its national heritage. And just a few months ago the Moroccan government went further, announcing that it's adding Jewish history and culture to the school curriculum. This course will be an introduction to how Jews and Muslims have lived and interacted together in recent times using Morocco as a case study. Much of the material in this course will be based on current survey research carried out by CCNY faculty on the ground in Casablanca and Marrakech.
