Learning Italian through Song: Language, Content, and Context

Music is one of the most effective tools to acquire linguistic skills such as pronunciation, fluency, grammatical structures, a broad vocabulary, and most importantly, a deeper understanding of a culture. This course will present songs from a wide variety of music genres and will focus on understanding their literal meaning as well as their cultural significance through an attentive analysis of lyrics and context. Students will practice their speaking, reading, listening, and comprehension skills, and they will also have chances to sing these well known arias and compose their own tunes.
