Catalog description
This course takes an interdisciplinary approach to the rise of New York with an emphasis on fiction and film. On another level it will examine the ise of urban America through the example of the proto-typical city, New York. The main topics examined include the literature of immigrants, critical realism's New York by the slice, the Harlem Renaissance, the American dream in the big city, the modern Babylon, and the building and imagining of the Brooklyn Bridge.
