HUM 20001
Democracy: Arts & Humanities in Action
CUNY City College · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Students in this course explore how the core critical skills in arts and humanities–observation, analysis, and creation–contribute to vital democratic practices. Collaboratively taught with Sustained Dialogue educators, this class includes conversations with CCNY faculty in H&A and community partners engaged in civic engagement to demonstrate how the tools of arts and humanities can be leveraged to build, nurture, and sustain democracy. Students in the course will participate in activities to deepen their ability to critically observe, analyze, and create in an effort to contribute to pluralistic communities that can navigate complexity and difference. The course will culminate in the creation of a humanities project designed to uplift civic engagement within the CCNY campus community
