Africa Before 1500

Catalog description

The African continent is home to the longest history of human experiences. This course surveys the diversity of political, social, and cultural forms in African history from the time of early humans to 1500 CE. In addition to participation in the undergraduate section of this class, graduate students will complete a research paper on an early African history topic of their choice. This paper will reflect new research and historiography on this topic. In preparation for possible careers, graduate students will give at least one guest lecture on a relevant topic
