Catalog description

A wide-ranging overview of the historical literature, both classic and new, on the major political events, cultural movements, societal transformations, scientific innovations, and globalization of Europe, from the Renaissance and Reformation through the Age of Enlightenment and Napoleonic Wars. By the end of this course, students will have gained wide-ranging knowledge about the historiography on this transformative age of European history and its legacy for modernity, as well as a keen sense of many facets of the period itself, in much of their complexity.
