They offered profound critiques of capitalism and the promise of freedom to men and women no matter their nationality or race. Yet as they achieved power, socialists moderated their emancipatory drive and communists constructed oppressive dictatorships. This course, global in scope, will examine all aspects of socialism and communism in the modern world.
