Examines the origins, nature, and impact of European settler colonialism in North America and the crises of empire that culminated in revolution and an independent United States. Special attention is devoted to regional socioeconomic variation, gender and the construction of citizenship, and the experiences of Indigenous American and African-descended peoples.
