Included are modernism in the visual arts and literature, innovations in the social sciences such as critical theory, new medical and scientific disciplines like Freudianism and the response of its critics, and 20th century re-examinations of earlier European intellectual culture, such as the 18th century Enlightenment or the 19th century Positivism undertaken by "Post-modernism."
