Race, Gender, and Nation in Latin America

This course examines the process of nation-building in 19th-20th century Latin America and the Caribbean focusing on struggles over definitions of citizenship. We will pay particular attention to the ways in which race/ethnicity and gender are implicated in the construction of national communities and identities in a post-colonial context.
