Catalog description

As writers here in the theatre capital of the world, we have myriad opportunities to experience and learn from what is arguably the oldest form of storytelling: performance. This is both a creative writing workshop and critical practice in dramatic writing. We will examine from a writer’s perspective what makes “drama,” theorize about what makes it uniquely effective, and on what dynamics and considerations a writer depends for its success. We will read portions of plays from established writers, discuss major movements and innovations in Modern Western Drama see at least one live Off Broadway performance (for free – I’m the Stage Manager!), and you will experiment with your own scripting.
