In this course, we will be reading and discussing English poems written by Shakespeare and his contemporaries. Epics and elegies, sonnets, songs, and shorter narrative poems, everything except the epic. The poems are mostly about love – we will be thinking about how poetry remakes love into its own image, and how different poetic forms change our experience of love and of the world.
