Craft of the Novel

Catalog description

This is a craft course not a workshop. We will analyze or break down a few published novels from the writer’s point of view: that is, we will explore, not what the books mean, but how they are put together. The written work students produce in the class will be analytic, not creative. The focus will be on understanding dramatic structure and character development, whose effective achievement makes long-form fiction exciting to read.
