Literary Genres: Historical Narrative

This course will introduce students to the genre of historical narrative, paying particular attention to the literature of memory and place. How do authors write past historical events and, in so doing, help us to better understand the present? What is the relationship between historical events, contemporary identities, and geography? Can the past ever be written truly? These are some of the questions we will approach in this class.
