Catalog description

Fundamentals of the Internet of Things (IoT) with a focus on smart grid applications. Topics include IoT architecture, sensors and actuators, embedded platforms, and communication protocols (Wi-Fi, BLE, Zigbee, MQTT). Students gain hands-on experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS IoT) for data processing and analytics. Applications in smart cities, homes, and healthcare are discussed, with special emphasis on smart grid technologies such as smart meters, EV infrastructure, and virtual power plants. The course also addresses challenges in connecting and integrating large-scale, heterogeneous IoT devices into future energy systems.
