Playwriting in the Classroom

Catalog description

This course will introduce students to a variety of classic and contemporary plays by notable authors. Through analysis of these texts, students will deepen their understanding of dramatic structure, setting, conflict, plot, characterization, and theatrical spectacle. Students will be guided through the process of creating an original script and providing constructive criticism of classmates' work as well as strategies for how to bring this work into the 7-12 classroom. Completion of several writing assignments and a unit plan is required.
