Beginning Research

Catalog description

The first of a four semester course sequence designed to support candidates in conceptualizing a research project around literacy learning and teaching. In this first course, the focus is on the teacher as researcher and writer who discovers different ways of looking at literacy learning, formulates significant research questions, and pursues a line of inquiry. Candidates will investigate the ways in which their cultural backgrounds are connected to their research questions. Candidates will learn a variety of data collection tools for conducting teacher research and engage hands-on research techniques to further these theoretical understandings. Includes 8 hours of fieldwork.
