(Prereq. for Graduate Program in Literacy Acquisition and Development) Emergent to fluent literacy acquisition for students with diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and students with special needs; assessment of semantic, syntactic, phonic, and phonemic awareness; strategies for children having difficulties in acquisition of speaking, listening, reading, and writing competencies; organizing shared, guided, and independent reading and writing instruction; use of technology. Includes 15 hours of fieldwork in exemplary setting.
