Catalog description

This course will explore the unique position and contribution of the nonprofit tax-exempt sector to the U.S. Economy. In between the government public sector and the business private sector sits the nonprofit sector. It includes organizations ranging from large regional healthcare and educational institutions to local community groups. They share the common mission of providing services to alleviate societal ills and promote the common good. This course will be divided into four main topics: A. Identifying problems, and defining the missions. The Role of Nonprofits in Society B. Building the foundation, community buy-in. C. Organizing and managing the nonprofit-Leadership, governance, management team, volunteers, and program development. D. Sustainability- Legal and financial compliance, marketing and communications, fundraising, grants and grantsmanship, performance measurements. There will be reading assignments, learning videos, guest speakers, two team projects which will include writing a business
