The class provides an introduction to the aesthetics and cultural history of blackness and the arts. By addressing blackness in political, cultural, and artistic terms, the class employs a range of critical perspectives and art (e.g. literature, music, contemporary art, cinema) to introduce students to the breadth and depth of black visual and expressive culture.
