Catalog description

An upper-level elective course focusing on the Genetic and molecular analyses of behavior. The course is a tribute to the great American scientist Seymour Benzer, who pioneered the application of genetic analysis to behavior. The topics to be covered are (but not limited to) are: Visual behavior, Circadian rhythms/Clock behavior, Learning and Memory, Olfactory and Gustatory behaviors, Courtship and mating. Behavior. The lectures and discussions will be solely based on published peer reviewed papers. The Classes will involve in depth discussion of classic papers as well as the current research in the field. Students will be required to present papers and actively participate in the discussion.
