Catalog description

Sex and sexuality in the Caribbean and its diaspora; exploration of how sexuality intersects with and diverges from culture, nationalism, notions of gender, race, and ethnicity. Social science and literary texts explore a range of experiences from the nineteenth to the twenty-first centuries, including heterosexuality, interracial relationships, homosexuality, love, violence, and desire; critical and theoretical texts examine the structures of gender and sexual relations, and relationships between sex and race. This course is the same as Africana Studies 3246, Caribbean Studies 3118, and Comparative Literature 3620.
