A historical overview of the cultural heritage of Latin America from the Pre-Columbian era, the conquest and colonialperiods, to independence in the nineteenth century and the Spanish- American War of 1898. The creation of the multiple New World identities that emerged in the region from these historical events. Discussions and frequent writing assignments using a variety of approaches and supplementary materials from the print, broadcast, and electronic media. Field trips to museums and cultural events. May be taken concurrently with or after Spanish *2018 [4.8], 2024 or 2030W. Qualifies as a LOTE (Language Other Than English) course for Pathways College Option purposes.
