U.S. Southwest annexation. Historical antecedents including Spanish colonialism, Mexico’s independence, and War with Mexico. Migration, entrepreneurship, labor exploitation, segregation, and deportation. U.S./Mexican drug wars. Communities in 21st century. Chicano movement and identity formation. Racialization. Civil rights, politics and culture. Demographic expansion throughout U.S. Intra-group and inter- group race relations, gender, class dynamics.
