Introduction to political science’s multiple approaches to studying contemporary global events, politics, and issues. Possible topics and concepts include uses of power, the nature and role of the state, the development and politics of identity, political economy, political change, the global financial order, globalization, development, democratization and autocratization, transnational movements, international organizations, transnational migration, climate change, and peace and conflict. Analysis from one or more critical approaches such as race, ethnicity, class, gender, language, sexual orientation, belief, or other forms of social differentiation. Application to specific countries and problems. Starting spring 2026 satisfies Pathways Flexible Core World Cultures and Global Issues requirement.
