CUNY Brooklyn College · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
Zen or Chan meditation is a practice deeply rooted in Buddhist psychology, offering an experiential study of the self. This course lays the groundwork for Chan meditation or “zuochan” (zazen, sitting meditation), introducing fundamental breathing techniques and other exercises such as qigong and Tai-chi guidance. Students will also explore the “gong’an study” (or koan study), learning how to integrate Zen meditation into their daily routines. The course places a strong emphasis on experiential learning, integrating a variety of in-class exercises with home-based practice. (This course is the same as CHIN 2080.)
