Gendering Film and Literature in Latin America

Catalog description
Introduction to major work in literature and film produced by Latin America women writers and film directors. Through contemporary literary and visual representations, students will learn about the ways historical, political and social contexts influence aesthetic choices in writing and filmmaking. Women’s contributions will be analyzed using a gender lens problematizing patriarchal culture and sexism and heteronormativity as regimes that perpetuate gender, class, and race privilege. This course is the same as WGST 3155.
