Catalog description

Lecture and Lab on environmentally sound (sustainable) food production via aquaculture and its variant, aquaponics. Lectures will consider fisheries historically, and the problems of overfishing, the history and biology of cultured organisms, and aquaculture and aquaponics systems. The Lab portion of the course will utilize AREAC’s greenhouse, creating small culture systems, monitoring their performance, analyzing for water quality, as well as trouble-shooting and business aspects. Special Fees: Approximately $100 per student to pay for consumable supplies. Prerequisites: EESC1201;
