Catalog description

Examine the historical context of Black entrepreneurship and ecosystems that support Black entrepreneurship in the United States. Provide knowledge and skills to start and grow for-profit and non-profit ventures. Topics include: History and development of African American business enterprise and entrepreneurs from Booker T. Washington and the National Negro Business League to the present; Political philosophy of "black capitalism"; Small and large businesses and the Black community; The impact of governmental programs on business development; case studies of successful African American businesses; Ecosystems and Black Entrepreneurship; Developing and communicating business plans. (This course is the same as AFST 3337. Not open to students who have completed Africana Studies 34 or Africana Studies 3337.)
