Investigation of the history of the reggae genre; research into African spirituality and “new world” religions. Analysis of survival strategies in the post-slavery era and their role in solidifying links between Caribbean people and their African heritage. Exploration of reggae music and artists. Connecting reggae to global social and political movements. Exploration of reggae as a progenitor of new musical genres in the global economy. This course is the same as American Studies 3707 and Caribbean Studies 3050.
