Managing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace

In this course, executive students explore and analyze selected problems and opportunities that managers encounter as they lead, interact with, and make decisions about employees from diverse cultural backgrounds. Because Americansociety is becoming increasingly diverse as a result of immigration and natural population growth, the available labor pool from which employers select qualified candidates for employment increasingly includes workers from diverse backgrounds. A key question considered in this course is how human resource managers can maximize the potential benefits and minimize the potential costs that come with managing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace. Thisencompasses recruitment and selection of employees, performance evaluation, consideration of employee rights, and the establishment of fair compensation systems. Students explore the growing importance of DEI for businesses, criticallyevaluate the extant literature on DEI, and assess the efficacy of various strategies to bring about a more representative workplace.
