The City in Latin American Literature

Catalog description

This course examines literary texts that address the role of cities in Latin America, and provides students with a better understanding of the representation of cities and urban life in Latin American culture. Critical essays dealing with urban issues, as well as videos and films, are integrated into the course work. Authors may include Ernesto Sabato, Julio Cortazar, Rosario Ferre, and Elena Poniatowska. For students with two 3000-level courses from the Latin American and Caribbean Studies list or two 3000-level Spanish courses, this course may serve as the capstone for the Tier III requirement.
