This survey course examines works written in different genres from colonial times to the nineteenth century (prior to Modernismo). Emphasis is given to historical and political movements and context of the literature. Authors may include Bernardo de Balbuena, Pedro de Ona, Andres Bello, and Jose Marisa Heredia.
