Psychology of Ethics

Catalog description

This course explores the psychological theory and science behind ethical decision making in professional practices across a range of disciplines. Topics include exploring what can make individuals, communities, educational institutions, health providers, government agencies, and for-profit companies vulnerable to unethical behavior. This course will critically examine how individual and group reasoning, cognitive strategies such as heuristics and biases, organizational climate, and socio-cultural context all impact ethical decision making. Using this knowledge, students will improve their own awareness of, and be better prepared for, decision making about ethical dilemmas they will encounter in their careers. Students will receive credit for PSY 3290 or PHI 3290, not both. These courses may not substitute for each other with the F-replacement policy.
