Catalog description

Psychology is a diverse field of study that prepares students for careers in a wide range of professions. In this course, students will learn about the academic and professional field of psychology and gain an understanding of career pathways in the field. Students will learn the steps required for success in the psychology major, finding employment in the field of psychology, and preparing to apply to graduate school. Students will explore their career interests and learn the value of participating in scientific research, student organizations and activities, and internship opportunities in psychology. Students will develop a career plan portfolio, which will include a summary of their professional interests and skills assessment, a course plan for their studies in psychology, a professional resume or CV, a professional cover letter and personal statement, and an action plan to pursue their goals. Upon successfully completing this course, students will have the tools to make the most of their studies as a psychology student, and know the steps required for pursuing their professional goals in psychology and related fields. This course is graded on a Pass/Fail basis.
