In “Killing Clean?”, we examine the ethics (Just War Theory) and laws (International Humanitarian Law) that seek to constrain war’s gore. What rules govern fighting in war? Does ’humanizing’ war make it more likely? How does the U.S. ‘war-wash’ Hollywood movies and first-person-shooter video games? How are ‘womenandchildren’ portrayed in war? Do international criminal courts work? Whose bodies are (un)grievable? Who hurts? Should it hurt? After all, not all is fair in love and in war. Open to Austin W.
