This course is a survey of the Puerto Rican economy underSpain and the United States. It explores the relations of economicstructures to political institutions and class formationsfrom the colonial past to the present. This course considerswhether social-economic processes in Puerto Rico can bestudied as a model for economic growth and/or developmentfor Third World countries.
