Catalog description

This course will provide students with a broad overview about how federal and state law regulates commercial gaming, skill-based contests, and random promotional drawings. Particular areas of emphasis include the following: the differences in regulatory schemes between skill and chance based contests; the legal differences between online contests and online sweepstakes; the relationship between federal and state gaming law in regulating online contests and sweepstakes; legal issues surrounding the fantasy sports marketplace; charitable gaming exceptions; and how public perception of these contests and sweepstakes will change with new technology and changes in moral norms.
