Seminar in Black & Latino Studies

Catalog description

This course offers advanced analysis of contemporary and/or historical issues in African, African American, Latino/Hispanic, or Latin American studies. In any given semester, the instructor who teaches this seminar will designate the topic to be studied and the materials to be mastered. Students should expect to function in the class at a high level, meaning that they should be able to work independently on readings, research topics, and/or prepare to make presentations to the class. Topics taught under this course title in the past include The Impact of Slavery and Colonial Domination; Patterns of Migration Within the Caribbean and to North America; The Cultural, Political, and Economic Interactions Resulting From Migration; and Expressions of Resistance in Music, Language, and Religion. This course is equivalent to BLS 4900. Students will receive credit for either BLS 4900 or HSP 4900, not both.
