Catalog description

Our present-day understanding of Latin America as a “developing” region hides its historical centrality in the creation of the global economy. This course examines the economic history of Latin America. We investigate how a resource-rich region has had difficulty in achieving sustained development; we also examine the consequences of the economic strategies pursued by Latin American leaders and everyday people. (Students will receive credit for HIS 3074 or LTS 3074. These courses may substitute for each other in the F-replacement policy.)
