This course explores the history of the modern United States from the end of World War II to the present. Among other topics, the class will examine the advent anddeepening of the Cold War, postwar liberalism, the growth and decline of the social welfare state, the Second Red Scare, the civil rights movement in the South and in the North, second wave feminism, the rise of conservatism, and the urban crisis. Students will also learn about and discuss how historians use and interpret primary sources.
