Principles of Evolution: Processes, Patterns, and the History of Life

Catalog description

This course focuses on the principles of biological evolution. Topics include the impact and application of Darwin’s theory of natural selection, and contemporary concepts of adaptation, molecular evolution, formation of new species, the fossil record, biogeography, and principles of classification. Laboratory and field work may include trips to museums, zoos and field observations. Students will present oral reports on current discoveries and controversies related to evolutionary biology. This course is equivalent to ENV 3030. Students will receive credit for either BIO 3030 or ENV 3030. These courses may substitute for each other in the F grade replacement policy.
