Catalog description
This honors course examines the stylistic connections between fiction and journalism within a chronological framework. Readings span four centuries and encompass such diverse literary forms as the diary, political pamphlet, and newspaper column, in addition to appropriate novels and essays. Writers studied include Jonathan Swift, Stephen Crane, Ernest Hemingway, Truman Capote, E.L. Doctorow, Norman Mailer, Tom Wolfe, James Baldwin, and Joan Didion. For students with two other upper-level (3000-level or above) English courses, this course may serve as the capstone for the Tier III requirement.
