Elements of Poetry: Presenting Subject Matter

Catalog description

This is a course in using and mastering language and the art of metaphor. Students find their own poetic voices by perceiving worldly objects and then transforming those perceptions into poetic images that reflect their own deepest emotions. While studying and memorizing poems by a wide spectrum of writers, including Shakespeare, W.H. Auden, Langston Hughes, Allen Ginsberg, and Gwendolyn Brooks, they write and critique their own.
