Catalog description

Terms like “Corporate Social Responsibility," "Corporate Citizenship," and"Sustainable Development” have become catchphrases for movements withincorporations and amongst consumers. In this class, we will consider thehistorical backgrounds of contemporary social movements as a way tocontextualize contemporary discussions. We will study the organizationalstrategies of social movements and the effects of social movements oncorporate culture and marketing before the emergence of the Internet and socialmedia platforms. From this historical context, we will examine the interactionsbetween and permutations of contemporary corporations, social movements,and social media platforms. Students will be evaluated through written reflectionpapers, a term paper, and in-class presentations.
