This course examines the French novel from its beginnings to the twentieth-century. It studies the novel through the major literary movements from the seventeenth-century to the present: Classicism; Romanticism; and Realism, among others. It explores the novel as a literary genre in the field of literature and analyzes it in the larger social, historical, and political contexts.
