Latin America and the Caribbean: History and Politics

Catalog description

This interdisciplinary course examines historical, political, and social formations of Latin America and the Caribbean through social science perspectives. Students will develop research projects; themes and approaches may vary by instructor. The course may focus on indigenous civilizations, Afro-diasporic communities, legacies of colonialism and slavery, social movements (e.g., feminisms, worker’s rights,human rights, environment, LGBTQIA+), political and economic systems, governmental institutions, migration, and foreign relations. (Students will receive credit for only one of the following courses: BLS; LACS; or LTS 4901. These courses may substitute for each other in the F-replacement policy.)
